Steve's Family Dog Training is experienced in offering services in basic pet obedience, behavior modification and problem solving, aggression management and temperament testing, 4-H youth dog training and showing, snake avoidance training, AKC Canine Good Citizen testing and training, and modified watchdog training.
Steve understands that your dog is your companion and friend. He believes that obedience training should strengthen the bond of friendship and trust. He teaches pet owners how to train their dogs to obey without yelling, scaring, or hurting their pets. All training is done without the use of "choke" chains or prong collars, or excessive reliance on food, using positive motivation. Positive reinforcement, praise, and encouragement are the key elements of the training and lead to building a positive bond with the family pet.
Steve has an undergraduate degree in education and graduate studies in behavioral psychology, combined with twenty-five years as an educator, peace officer, behavioral counselor, and consultant to the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. His experience as a volunteer 4-H dog project leader and child welfare worker allows him to work well with people of all ages. He combines almost three decades of practical training experience with academic achievement and considerable theoretical knowledge of behavior modification principles and practical applications.
